What causes shin splints?

Shin splints, medically known as medial tibial stress syndrome, is a term for pain in the front or inner part of the lower leg.  This common sports injury can involve inflammation to the muscles, tendons, and thin layer of tissue that covers the bone.  Although shin splints are most commonly associated with runners, they can impact the performance of all athletes ranging from basketball and soccer players to racquetball players.

A Story of Finding Running…and Shin Splints

I’m Lakeisha and 19 yrs of age…I run cross country as well as local 5k’s. I was never much of an athlete growing up as I preferred spending my days reading book after book as well as exploring the outdoors. However my freshman year of high school a friend of mine asked me to join the Cross Country (CC) team with her so that is how my love for running began.
