What causes shin splints?

Shin splints, medically known as medial tibial stress syndrome, is a term for pain in the front or inner part of the lower leg.  This common sports injury can involve inflammation to the muscles, tendons, and thin layer of tissue that covers the bone.  Although shin splints are most commonly associated with runners, they can impact the performance of all athletes ranging from basketball and soccer players to racquetball players.

Recovery Tips from the Austin Track Club

The Austin Track Club is one of America’s premier professional track & field teams, with past team members including Olympians Leo Manzano and Shannon Rowbury. Under coaches Dr. Noah Moos and George Perry the team has become a much-needed center of innovation for the sport. As they start their outdoor track season, hundreds of miles of training turn into hundreds of miles on the road.
